  • Alex Ruff, Conservative Party of Canada

Alex Ruff is a proud Canadian and a trusted, proven leader dedicated to serving his community and country.  He won the federal Conservative nomination on Monday, April 22nd, 2019 and became the Conservative candidate for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound (BGOS). Subsequently, on October 21st, 2019 at the conclusion of the federal election, he was elected to the 43rd Parliament as the Member of Parliament (MP) for BGOS. He served on the Veterans Affairs Committee from 2019-20 until being appointed as the Opposition Deputy Whip in September 2020. He grew up on a farm just outside Tara and is no stranger to the unique issues facing a rural riding. He attended Chesley District High School (CDHS) and spent his summers farming and lifeguarding at the Tara Pool.

With multiple postings across Canada, he has developed a huge appreciation for the vast diversity and challenges that face everyday Canadians. Alex has always maintained his deep connections to the local community through his involvement with the Tara Legion and local community events. He frequently speaks to schools across the region, attends local Remembrance Day events and has even opened the Desboro Fall Fair.

In 1997, Alex graduated from Royal Military College with an Honours Bachelors of Space Science degree, and subsequently went on to command troops as an infantry officer in The Royal Canadian Regiment. He has extensive experience with six operational deployments including the 1998 ice storm in Eastern Ontario and Quebec, two in Bosnia, two in Afghanistan and most recently in Iraq.  From his 2007 combat deployment to Afghanistan, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Cross by the Governor General due to his "outstanding leadership...in defeating a determined enemy."

His final military posting was in Baghdad, Iraq, as a key leader in the international efforts to defeat ISIS terrorists in the region before he returned home in January 2019 to run for federal politics.

  • Ann Marie Watson, Liberal Party

Anne Marie Watson was raised in Montreal Quebec, moving to Ontario when she was 16. She returned to university after working for several years and starting a family, graduating with a degree in Political Science in 1993.

Living and working on the family farm in West Grey, Anne Marie has been married for 38 years. She was active with the Grey County Federation of Agriculture for over 15 years as a Director and served 2 terms as President.

Anne Marie worked in the not-for-profit sector for 30 years. She most recently worked as the Executive Director for the Durham Hospital Foundation for ten years, raising funds and recruiting doctors. She volunteered with the local Food Bank and Agricultural Society, raised funds for Big Brothers and Sisters and the Alzheimer Society and has been involved with community theatre for over 20 years.

Anne Marie strongly believes in a caring community with a strong economy and affordable living. Her first political action was taking part in a protest to preserve and protect a natural aquifer from becoming a potential dump site. She was Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound’s Liberal candidate in 2021 and is running again to be your voice in Ottawa.

She will fight to bring affordable housing and accessible healthcare to our area, to support local business and to fight for you and all Canadians in this undeserved tariff war.

She learned to fight for what she believes in and she’s ready to fight for you.

  • Chris Neudorf, New Democratic Party (NDP)

Chris Neudorf was born in Mississauga, and grew up in other communities in south-western Ontario, but he credits the enjoyable summers his family spent in Bruce-Grey as the reason he settled in Owen Sound.

While earning his Bachelors of History and Education degrees at Brock University, his summer jobs brought him back to this area as a camp counselor at the Bruce County Museum and for summer camp programming with the Owen Sound branch of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, working with special needs children.

Chris is currently living in Owen Sound and has been working for the last eight years as a high school teacher with the Bluewater District School Board. Since 2023 he has also been involved with the Hanover Community Players as both an actor and as a volunteer summer camp counselor.

While teaching in both Bruce and Grey Counties, he has met students from diverse backgrounds and has enjoyed learning about the culture and history of the region. He is passionate about history and politics. Chris believes that a society can only be judged by the kindness and dignity with which it treats its most vulnerable.

  • Natasha Akiwenzie, Green Party of Canada

Natasha Akiwenzie is a member of Obizhigokaang living at Neyaashiinigmiing with her husband and 3 grown sons. They have a small farm with goats and chickens. Natasha is the manager for a not for profit organization Bagida'waad Alliance and Executive Director of Gidakiinan Land Trust. Before this the family ran a sustainable fishing business for 15 years. This came to an end in 2018 due to the decline in the lake whitefish in Georgian Bay and how unpredictable the weather became due to climate change.

Natasha believes in the Green Party’s Plan as it shows they are working towards providing more affordable housing, continuing work on Indigenous Reconciliation, strengthening universal health care and working on climate action in a number of different ways. Natasha believes she can help guide them through these challenges by drawing on her own lived experiences.

Hiking, paddling, camping and exploring the wonders of nature with family and friends are a few things Natasha enjoys doing.

  • Ann Gillies, UNited party of canada

Dr. Ann Gillies and her husband Bob are residents of Grey County. Ann grew up in Meaford and, after she married, moved to husband's family farm in Dundalk. This is where they have raised their children and where they have served in the local church.

Dr. Gillies is trained in both psychology and theology, and through her counselling practice in Grey County, has helped those suffering with Complex Traumatic Stress Disorder. She is author of several books and is an international speaker on the subjects of trauma, gender, and sexuality.

Dr. Gillies is running for the United Party of Canada because of the values it represents and the need to reforge Canada according to these long-neglected values. The Centre Block and the Peace Tower have 25 scriptures carved in stone. These are the foundations of what our founding fathers believed and represented.

In the Memorial Chamber of the Peace Tower, scripture is deployed to create a literal frame around the Book of Remembrance. This scripture comes from Ephesians 6:13, and then tiny Latin inscriptions illustrate Ephesians 6:14-27. This is what they mean in English: Truth; Righteousness; Peace; Faith; Salvation and Spirit, the Word of God.

This is the form reforging Canada will take. Standing strong for these values and the Supremacy of God and Rule of Law.
